A rare Canadian-bred falcon has fetched 1.3 million Saudi riyals, roughly $346,000, at a prestigious auction north of Riyadh, making it the most expensive bird sold at this year’s event and the second-highest sale in the auction’s history.

The juvenile three-quarter gyr Super White falcon was bred by Jim Wilson Falcons in Ontario, Canada, before being offered at the seventh-night session of the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Malham, about 65 kilometers north of the Saudi capital.

The sale highlights the extraordinary value placed on elite falcons in the Gulf, where falconry is both a centuries-old cultural tradition and a highly competitive modern sport.

How much did the Canadian falcon sell for?

Bidding for the rare falcon began at 200,000 riyals. Competition quickly intensified, pushing the price into seven divs before Nova Falcon secured the bird for 1.3 million riyals.

That works out to approximately $346,000.

Shadeed Al Rashidi of Nova Falcon explained the purchase in a video released by the auction organizers.

“This bird is rare, and rare birds are priceless.”

The sale was also announced by Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Falcons, which described the bird as the world’s most expensive Mathlouth gyr pure falcon sold in 2026.

The distinction is particularly notable because the bird did not come from a Saudi breeding operation. It was bred thousands of miles away in Ontario, demonstrating the international nature of the modern falcon market.

Two Canadian-bred birds sold for 1.45 million riyals

The Ontario breeder had an even more successful evening, with a second bird also attracting significant interest.

A pure gyrfalcon chick from Jim Wilson Falcons sold for 150,000 riyals, after bidding opened at 40,000 riyals.

Together, the two Canadian-bred birds generated 1.45 million riyals, or roughly $386,000.

The results underscore the premium that specialist buyers are willing to pay for particular bloodlines, rarity and performance potential.

Why are falcons worth hundreds of thousands of dollars?

The 2026 Canadian-bred bird did, however, surpass last year’s top sale of 1.2 million riyals.
