UnitedHealth appoints Tim Noel as CEO

UnitedHealth, the largest health insurance provider in the U.S., has announced Tim Noel as its new CEO. Noel, who has been with the company since 2007, most recently served as the head of its Medicare and retirement business.

The appointment follows the tragic assassination of Brian Thompson, the company’s former CEO, on December 4, 2024, in New York City.

Noel’s tenure at UnitedHealth has been marked by significant contributions to its Medicare business. Under his leadership, the company has strengthened its position as the largest provider of Medicare Advantage plans, covering 7.8 million Americans with privately managed versions of the government’s program for individuals aged 65 and older.

Mangione was found with a handwritten manifesto expressing anger toward “parasitic” health insurance companies and condemning corporate greed. Police also recovered a fake ID, passport, and additional fraudulent documents in his possession.

The suspect allegedly checked into a New York hostel using the same fake ID identified at the scene of the crime. Prosecutors revealed that shell casings found near Thompson’s body were marked with phrases such as “DENY,” “DEPOSE,” and “DELAY,” believed to be references to insurer practices often criticized by claimants.
