Texas congressman proposes bill to feature Trump on currency

A proposal to feature US President Donald Trump’s face on a newly designed $100 bill has gained momentum, receiving strong backing from Colorado representative Lauren Boebert.

The legislation, called the “Golden Age Act of 2025,” was introduced this Monday by Texas congressman Brandon Gill. The proposed bill suggests using Trump’s 2023 mugshot from his booking at Georgia’s Fulton County Jail as the note’s front-facing image.

According to Gill’s statement, the legislation would mandate all $100 bills issued after December 31, 2028, to feature Donald J. Trump’s image.

Lauren Boebert, a staunch Trump ally, enthusiastically endorsed the plan, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to declare:

“Add me as a co-sponsor!”

In a follow-up post, she wrote:

“The golden age of America has just begun. We are going to fight fight fight alongside President Trump to make America great again!”

Gill’s announcement triggered a flurry of reactions online, with responses ranging from fierce criticism to enthusiastic approval.

• A critic mocked: “That’s ridiculous—he wouldn’t fit!”
• A Trump supporter suggested: “He stands alone. I want a new denomination—maybe a $250 or $500 bill? The man has to be alone at the top.”

What does the Golden Age Act propose?

Under the bill’s framework, the treasury secretary would be required to release a draft design of the new $100 bill by December 31, 2026.

The official rollout would mandate that all $100 bills issued after December 31, 2028, bear Trump’s image. However, it remains unclear whether his mugshot would be used.

Gill defended the proposal by arguing that Trump has done more to usher in a “golden age” for America than any other leader. He cited the president’s resilience in the face of political persecution, claiming:

“He took a bullet for this country. Featuring him on the $100 bill is a small way to honor all he will accomplish in the next four years.”

Gill, a vocal critic of President Biden’s immigration policies—previously calling them “an abomination”—has positioned himself as an unwavering supporter of Trump’s hardline stances on immigration, trade, energy, and foreign aid.

A $250 bill for Trump? Another lawmaker weighs in

Meanwhile, Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina has floated a separate proposal to place Trump’s image on a $250 bill in recognition of his economic achievements.

However, federal law prohibits the depiction of any living person on US banknotes, making both proposals legally contentious.
