Club unveils vision for ‘world’s greatest’ football stadium

Manchester United on Tuesday announced plans to construct a new 100,000-capacity stadium near their historic Old Trafford ground. Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe described it as the ‘world’s greatest’ football stadium.

“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport.”

United stated that the stadium and wider regeneration project could generate an additional £7.3 billion per year for the UK economy, potentially creating 92,000 new jobs.

“United is the world’s favorite football club, and the biggest in my opinion—it deserves a stadium befitting its stature,” Ratcliffe said in London on Tuesday.

“It’s more challenging to build a 100,000-seat stadium, but I believe the UK needs a venue of that scale, and the north of England is the best place to build it.”

The decision has received the backing of former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who led the club to 13 Premier League titles during his 26-year reign.

“Manchester United should always strive for excellence, both on and off the pitch, and that includes the stadium we play in,” Ferguson said.

“Old Trafford holds so many special memories for me, but we must be brave and seize this opportunity to build a new home—a place where new history can be made.”
