“Janet Petro is NASA’s acting administrator. During her tenure as deputy director, Petro played a crucial role in transitioning Kennedy into a multi-user spaceport. She spearheaded cross-agency initiatives with both the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Air Force to streamline processes that support commercial space operations, thereby enhancing government efficiency and reducing redundancy.

Petro’s extensive experience also includes a 12-month appointment at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where she served as deputy associate administrator and acting director for the Office of Evaluation. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, she also holds a Master of Science degree in business administration from Boston University’s Metropolitan College.
