Tucker Carlson alleges Biden administration 'attempted to kill Putin'; Kremlin responds

Carlson makes explosive claims on his podcast

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson stirred controversy by alleging that the Biden administration attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin. Carlson, who aired the claims on a recent episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, described the alleged plot as “insane” and “demented,” adding, “Chaos is a screen that protects them.” However, he did not present any evidence to substantiate his accusations.

Kremlin issues statement on presidential safety

In response to Carlson’s claims, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed the matter during a briefing on Tuesday, emphasizing the measures in place to protect the Russian leader.

“The Russian special services are constantly taking all the necessary measures to ensure public safety and, of course, the safety of those who are under state protection. This concerns first and foremost the head of the state,” Peskov said.

Peskov refrained from commenting directly on Carlson’s statements but reaffirmed that Russian security services prioritize Putin’s safety at all times.

Carlson’s controversial history

Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host, has been no stranger to controversy. He left the network in 2023 amid Fox’s legal troubles over its promotion of baseless claims about election fraud in the 2020 U.S. presidential race.

Since then, Carlson has used his podcast to voice strong opinions on global politics, frequently criticizing U.S. foreign policy. In his latest episode, he condemned U.S. military aid to Ukraine and described the Eastern European nation as “not a democracy.”

Carlson’s connections to Russia

Carlson’s remarks come against the backdrop of his publicized interactions with Russian leadership. In February last year, he traveled to Moscow for a widely criticized interview with Putin. Later, in December, he returned to Russia to interview Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, further raising eyebrows about his stance on U.S.-Russia relations.

Lack of evidence raises skepticism

While Carlson’s allegations have garnered significant attention, the absence of evidence to support his claims has led many to question their validity. Analysts suggest that such statements could serve to deepen political divides and fuel conspiracy theories without contributing to constructive discourse on U.S.-Russia relations.

As the international community continues to navigate the complexities of the Ukraine war and U.S.-Russia tensions, Carlson’s latest accusations add another layer of intrigue and debate to an already charged geopolitical landscape.
