India’s advanced systems successfully intercept Pakistani aerial strikes

Indigenous ‘Akash’ System

Israeli ‘Spider’ System

India has acquired the ‘Spider’ air defence system from Israel, which has further enhanced the country’s capability to counter aerial threats, providing an additional layer of protection against incoming missiles and drones.

Defence experts interviewed by zeenews.com explained the technical challenges involved: “Each radar has its own capability. Some radars take up to 65 seconds to detect a threat, so it is crucial to pick up fast-moving missiles quickly, even before they cross the border.”

They emphasized that the speed of incoming missiles, traveling at 15,000 to 17,000 kilometers per hour, requires an instant response to neutralize the threats effectively. India’s air defence architecture features multiple protective layers. While the first layer engages threats at long range, the second and third layers operate at medium and short ranges, respectively.

“We have our radars ready. The drones and missiles from Pakistan are detected even before they reach close. They are neutralized before causing any damage,” the analysts explained.

Escalating tensions following Operation Sindoor

India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7 as a direct response to the April 22 Pakistan-backed terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The operation targeted several terror launchpads at nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in precision strikes. Pakistan acknowledged significant losses resulting from the operation and confirmed at least 33 deaths, though it attributed the damage to its own failed air defense systems.

In response to the strikes, Pakistan launched a series of attacks targeting India’s border states, significantly escalating tensions. On the evening of May 8, both nations exchanged offensive operations from their respective territories using drones, missiles, artillery shelling and small arms fire.

The Ministry of Defence reported that Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, which were successfully intercepted. “There were no casualties. India remains committed to defending its sovereignty and protecting its citizens,” the ministry emphasized. On Saturday, Pakistan even launched its long-range Fatah missile, which was intercepted over Sirsa in Haryana.

However, Pakistan has rejected India’s claims, denying involvement in any attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. “We have not done anything so far. When Pakistan attacks, everyone will know,” said Defense Minister Khwaja Asif.
