Mike Raybeck, known to wrestling fans as Maxx Justice and Mike Diamond, has died at the age of 63 after being struck by a vehicle while cycling home from work near Chabot College in Hayward, California. The incident occurred last week and was confirmed by All Pro Wrestling (APW), where Raybeck began his wrestling career and became a five-time APW Universal Champion.

Wrestling career and legacy

Standing at six feet five and weighing 250 pounds, Raybeck was a prominent div in the California wrestling scene. He started his career at APW’s Boot Camp and later competed in three matches for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as WWE. Raybeck also appeared in the wrestling documentary “Beyond the Mat,” which highlighted the lives of professional wrestlers.

Tributes from fans and officials

Following the news of his passing, tributes poured in from fans and fellow wrestlers on social media. One user wrote, “This sucks, he was really a sweetheart of a guy,” while another recalled, “Saw Maxx Justice at Pinole Valley High back in like 99/00. Dude was legit fr.” A third commented, “Rest in Peace Maxx Justice. In the ring, one of the most intimidating men I’ve ever encountered, but behind the scenes a true sweetheart. Thanks for welcoming me to APW like you did, big man.”

The Hayward City Council recognised Raybeck’s contributions by holding a minute’s silence at their latest meeting and lowering flags to half-mast in his honour.

A difficult time for the wrestling world

Raybeck’s death comes shortly after the passing of wrestling legend Terry Brunk, known professionally as Sabu, who died at the age of 60. Sabu was renowned for his high-risk wrestling style and held significant titles, including the ECW World Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He wrestled his final match in April 2025 and made his last public appearance at a wrestling convention shortly before his passing.

The wrestling community is mourning the loss of two of its notable divs, remembering their contributions to the sport and the impact they had on fans and fellow wrestlers alike.
