In a groundbreaking move, the United Arab Emirates has announced plans to provide free ChatGPT Plus subscriptions to all residents, making it the first nation to offer premium artificial intelligence access to its entire population. This initiative is part of a comprehensive partnership between OpenAI and the UAE government, which includes the construction of the massive “Stargate UAE” data center in Abu Dhabi.
The collaboration represents a significant technological leap for the region, with initial plans calling for a 200-megawatt AI computing cluster set to launch next year, eventually scaling up to one gigawatt capacity. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described the project as “a bold vision” to democratize AI benefits across sectors including healthcare, education and sustainable energy.
