Ujjawal Chaudhary underwent robotic hernia surgery at Yashoda Super Specialty Hospital; family alleges delayed diagnosis, mishandling, and lack of accountability

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh— A family has accused Yashoda Super Specialty Hospital in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, of medical negligence following the death of Ujjawal Chaudhary, a 35-year-old man who died on June 2 after complications from a robotic hernia surgery. The incident has sparked an online campaign and public appeals for investigation and accountability.

Routine procedure turns critical

According to the family, Ujjawal Chaudhary was admitted on May 26, 2025, for a robotic hernia surgery, which was expected to be a routine procedure. The surgery, performed by Dr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha, reportedly extended to over four hours. Post-surgery, Chaudhary was kept under observation for six hours in the ICU, longer than the typical post-op window for such procedures.

The family alleges that complications arose during surgery, including a suspected rupture of the large intestine (colon), which was not initially disclosed. Despite visible signs of distress in the days following the operation, they claim that adequate diagnostic steps were not taken.

Alleged delay in diagnosis and emergency care

In a formal letter sent to the hospital while Ujjawal was still under treatment, his brother Prateek Chaudhary detailed the patient’s severe abdominal bloating and pain following the removal of a nasal tube on May 28. Despite repeated complaints, the family claims only painkillers were administered, and no imaging tests were conducted until May 29, nearly three days after the first surgery.

It was then that an ultrasound and CT scan reportedly revealed the presence of six liters of fluid buildup and an improperly sealed intestinal rupture. An emergency second surgery was performed by another doctor, Dr. Sanjay Negi. However, the family says sepsis had already set in, leading to multiple organ failures over the next three days.

Hospital accused of evasiveness and lack of response

Prateek Chaudhary alleges that the initial operating surgeon left for vacation shortly after the procedure, and the family was left in the dark about Ujjawal’s worsening condition. The emails further claim that hospital staff initially hesitated to escalate the matter or involve senior medical personnel until the situation became critical.

In their appeal to media houses and the public, the family emphasized that this is not an isolated incident. Their social media campaign, launched under the hashtag #JusticeForUjjawal, has reportedly attracted messages from other individuals claiming similar experiences with the hospital.

Struggle for justice and police action

The family claims that local police initially refused to register their complaint. It was only after a six-hour peaceful protest outside the hospital that the Station House Officer (SHO) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) intervened and engaged with the family. However, according to them, no FIR has been lodged to date, and no action has been taken against the accused surgeon.

A call for accountability

In their public statement, the Chaudhary family has called for action against Dr. Pankaj Kumar Sinha and an independent investigation into the hospital’s practices. “This is not about compensation or even just one person. It is about stopping a cycle where lives are lost and families have no means to fight the powerful,” Prateek wrote in his email.

As of now, Yashoda Super Specialty Hospital has not issued an official response to the allegations.
