Will Pokémon levels also increase?

Despite the expanded player cap, Pokémon levels themselves will remain capped at 50. That means your monsters won’t get stronger beyond the current limits, this change is strictly for Trainer progression.

Niantic confirmed that tying Pokémon strength to player level won’t be altered in this update.

What will it take to reach level 80?

Don’t expect the climb to be easy. While XP requirements are being smoothed out, Niantic is introducing fresh level-up tasks for players aiming to break into the 70–80 tier.

These challenges are designed to test dedication, ensuring that only the most committed Trainers reach the new pinnacle.

New rewards include:

• Fresh avatar items exclusive to high-level players.
• Expanded storage capacity for Pokémon, items, and gifts — beyond today’s current limits.
• Increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends when you’re at level 70 or above.

What happens to legacy items and achievements?

Niantic emphasized that players who’ve worked hard under the old system won’t see their accomplishments diminished.

• Exclusive avatar items, such as the Level 50 Jacket, will be retired, making them legacy rewards.
• Two new profile medals will be available: one for Trainers who reached Level 49 before the update, and another for those who achieved Level 50.

This ensures that early achievers keep a visible edge in terms of prestige.

How will Niantic help players catch up?

To prepare the community for the October 18 rollout, Pokémon Go has already activated a series of XP bonuses that will last until October 14:

• Double XP for catching Pokémon.
• 3,000 bonus XP for winning raids and Max Battles.
• Timed Research offering up to 7 million XP in rewards.
