Britain’s ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, was abruptly dismissed on Thursday after newly revealed emails shed light on his close relationship with disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Foreign Office confirmed that Prime Minister Keir Starmer ordered Mandelson’s removal “with immediate effect” after a cache of private emails became public.

According to officials, the new documents showed Mandelson had:

• Questioned the legitimacy of Epstein’s 2008 Florida conviction, calling it “wrongful.”
• Offered advice to Epstein on his legal battles, even referencing Sun Tzu’s Art of War as a strategic guide.
• Expressed deep personal loyalty, at one point writing: “I think the world of you and I feel hopeless and furious about what has happened. I can still barely understand it. It just could not happen in Britain.”

A statement from the Foreign Office stressed:

“The emails show that the depth and extent of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment.”
