A massive Royal Caribbean cruise ship cut its voyage short on Monday after a fight near the children’s pool spiraled into chaos, forcing the vessel to turn back to Miami just hours after departure, authorities confirmed.

What Sparked the Altercation?

The Wonder of the Seas, billed as the world’s largest cruise ship, had just set sail on a five-day journey to the Bahamas when a verbal spat between two passengers escalated.

“A verbal dispute ensued between patrons, which became physical,” the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said in a statement obtained by the Daily Mail.

Photos from the scene showed at least one injured passenger being wheeled off the ship on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance once the vessel docked. Both individuals involved were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police noted that neither passenger chose to press charges.

Why Did the Ship Return to Port?

Though the scuffle was brief, the ship’s captain decided to err on the side of caution. The cruise line confirmed that the captain turned the vessel back to PortMiami and contacted local authorities.

Royal Caribbean later released a statement:

“Our team provided medical care to adult guests who were involved in an altercation onboard, and the guests are being treated for their injuries. We notified local authorities and are working closely with them. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no more information to share at this time.”

The ship eventually set sail again later that evening to continue its scheduled itinerary.
