While many aspiring lawyers across California celebrated their bar exam results on Saturday, November 8, Kim Kardashian received disappointing news: she did not pass.

The Kardashians star shared the update with her followers on social media, balancing humor with determination.

“Well… I’m not a lawyer yet; I just play a very well-dressed one on TV,” she wrote, referencing her new role in Ryan Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair. “I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up, just more studying and even more determination.”

“Falling Short Isn’t Failure, It’s Fuel”

Kardashian, who began her unconventional law journey six years ago, emphasized persistence over perfection.

“Falling short isn’t failure, it’s fuel,” she wrote. “I was so close to passing the exam, and that only motivates me even more. Let’s go!”

Why the California Bar Exam Is So Tough

California’s bar exam is notoriously one of the hardest in the United States. According to the State Bar of California, only 53.8% of test-takers passed the July 2024 and February 2024 sittings.

The test spans two days, covering essay questions, performance tests, and the Multistate Bar Exam. Candidates who fail must wait months to try again. The next opportunity comes in February 2026, with results expected in May 2026.

How Many Times Has Kim Taken the Bar?

Contrary to speculation, Kardashian has only taken the California Bar Exam once, in July 2025.

However, she previously took, and eventually passed, the “baby bar” (California’s First-Year Law Students’ Exam) in late 2021, after three failed attempts. Passing that preliminary test allowed her to continue her apprenticeship-style legal education.

Her triumph at the time was widely covered, with Kardashian celebrating the milestone on Instagram, writing that persistence had finally paid off after “two years of constant studying.”

Kardashian reached another major milestone earlier this year.

In May 2025, she graduated from law school after six years of study through California’s nontraditional pathway, which allows aspiring lawyers to train under practicing attorneys instead of attending a conventional law school full-time.

“I finally graduated law school after six years!!!” she wrote on her Instagram Story on May 21.

Her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., famously represented O.J. Simpson during the former NFL star’s 1995 murder trial, a connection that first inspired her to study law.

From Reality TV to Criminal Justice Reform

Before officially entering law school, Kardashian had already used her influence to promote criminal justice reform.

In 2018, she met with then-President Donald Trump to advocate for Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Her efforts led to Johnson’s clemency, and helped bring renewed attention to mass incarceration and sentencing reform.

Since then, Kardashian has continued to fund legal teams working on wrongful conviction cases and has publicly committed to using her platform to “make real change.”
