President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States should take control of the Gaza Strip and assume responsibility for redeveloping the war-ravaged region. Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a joint press conference on Tuesday, Trump outlined his vision for U.S. intervention in the region.

“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings,” Trump declared.

His remarks immediately raised questions about the logistics and geopolitical implications of such a move. When pressed for further details on his takeover plan, including who would reside in Gaza under U.S. control, Trump suggested that “the world’s people,” including “representatives from all over the world” as well as Palestinians, would inhabit the region once it is reconstructed.

He went on to propose a dramatic rebranding of the Gaza Strip, envisioning it as a luxury destination. “It’ll be wonderful for the people,” he said, adding that the U.S. could transform Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East,” a place “so magnificent” for those currently living in “hell.”

Past calls for Palestinian relocation

Trump’s latest remarks come after previous suggestions that Palestinians should leave Gaza permanently. The former president has repeatedly floated the idea of Palestinian refugees relocating to neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt, arguing that ongoing devastation in the region has left them with no viable alternative.

The Gaza Strip, home to approximately two million Palestinians, has been embroiled in armed conflict for the past 15 months, leading to widespread destruction and an escalating humanitarian crisis. While Trump’s proposal to “own” and redevelop Gaza has sparked intense debate, it remains unclear whether the plan has any concrete policy framework or international support.
