A transgender influencer’s viral video has highlighted the immediate impacts of President Donald Trump’s recent executive order on gender recognition, bringing national attention to the policy’s real-world consequences for the transgender community.
“They changed my gender to male because of Donald Trump,” digital creator Perysian Zaya Mekhi revealed in a widely shared Instagram video. The content creator, who has undergone complete gender confirmation surgery, discovered that her new passport listed her sex as male, despite her other official documents recognizing her as female.
In her video testimony, Mekhi presented the official correspondence she received alongside her passport. The letter stated that the sex marker was “corrected” to match existing records, seemingly reverting to her childhood documentation rather than acknowledging her legally updated status.
