As a safety precaution, the school was placed on “secure status”, a lockdown-lite measure allowing classes to continue but restricting entry or exit from the campus until deputies secured the weapon.

Who was arrested?

Authorities identified the mother as Sierra Bronner, 39. Investigators allege she placed the loaded handgun in the backpack before school and instructed the child to give it to their father.

“In this specific case, this was a poor decision and could’ve ended in tragedy. I’m grateful for our partnership with Clay County District Schools and applaud our school resource deputies and detectives for their work to keep our students safe.”
