A dramatic railway accident in Layton, Utah, has gone viral after security footage captured a driver jumping out of their SUV just moments before a speeding train crashed into it. The video, which has garnered over 13 million views on X, highlights the dangers of ignoring railroad signals.
According to footage shared by Collin Rugg, the SUV approached a railroad crossing as warning lights flashed and the barrier gate lowered. Instead of stopping, the driver continued forward, accidentally positioning the vehicle with its rear wheels still on the tracks.
As the train neared, the driver attempted to reverse but struck the gate arm, leaving the front wheels stranded. Unable to free the vehicle, they tried to push the gate back but ultimately abandoned the SUV just seconds before impact.

Speaking to KSL-TV, Utah Transit Authority (UTA) Public Information Officer Gavin Gustafson called the escape “incredibly fortunate” and confirmed that no injuries were reported.
“It’s easy to say the driver should have moved forward or broken through the gate, but in that moment, they were likely in shock,” Gustafson told Fox News.
While the driver escaped unscathed, the collision caused extensive damage, with repair costs estimated at over $100,000.
