New York Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has introduced a bill proposing that President Donald Trump’s birthday be recognized as a federal holiday. The proposed legislation, titled the “Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day Holiday Establishment Act,” aims to commemorate June 14 as a national holiday.
June 14, the proposed holiday date, coincides with Flag Day, marking the anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. flag in 1777. Tenney’s proposal seeks to honor both the American flag and Trump’s presidency, drawing a parallel with the federal holiday recognizing George Washington’s birthday.
Just weeks before the announcement, Tenney, who was re-elected in November 2024 in a different constituency than the one she previously represented, revealed that her district offices in Watertown, Lockport, Canandaigua, and Oswego, in upper New York state along the Canadian border, were forced to close due to a series of violent threats made against her staff, according to Spectrum News1.
While the bill has gained attention, Trump has yet to comment on the proposal. Meanwhile, Tenney has faced security threats, with her district offices shutting down following violent threats against her staff.
As discussions around the bill continue, it remains uncertain whether the proposed holiday will gain traction in Congress.
